Theosophical societies in Slovenia

a
After unsucessful aimings of Theosophical society in SFR Yugoslavia – Adyar, to solve to resolve the question of legal succession after theophical society in SFR Yugoslavia, it’s leading officials decided to estabilish Theosophical society in Slovenia.
a
25. of may in 1989 was held Founding General Assembly of Theosophical society in Slovenia, in which were present 27 founders.
a
They consisted of circle “Adyar” (former “Služenje”) from Ljubljana, “Razumevanje” from Celje and “Suria” (former “Ljubav”) from Koper.
a
Rules of society were accepted and it’s organs were elected, president of society became Anton Jesse. After estabilishment, 11 members from Croatia joined, so entire number of members consisted of 68 members.
a
In mid of July 1989 was held first larger activity of newly estabilished society – summer school in Bled, which was devoted to topic of meditation. Even after that, magazine “Teozofska Misel” was issued, meanwhile society inflicted even rather ambitious publishing program and in just first year published book of M. Collins – Light on way.
a
Next year (in 1990), summer school was organized at Vodnik homestead in Ljubljana and coincided with the visit of President of Theosophical society, which had in Ljubljana and Koper also two public lectures. For these two meetings, bulletin “Informacija o Teozofskem društvu” was prepared, and designed as questions and answers about essential contexts of operating society, which should attract new people.
a
The new regime of Society has led to some administrative problems in relations with the center of the Theosophical Society in Adyar, as it sent comments to the Rules of the Association, but the old law on associations in Slovenia did not allow appropriate changes at that time. On the other hand, main headquarters of TS in Adyar needed two and half years, to official confirmed new title of Society, so this one in mid of period was forced to use in communications with organs of TS and other sections of society old title, which caused some disagreement among members.
a
In 1991, in Slovenia there were war circumstances, but the association nevertheless continued to work, and in addition to regular meetings organized summer school, held in September in Vodnikova homestead. “The Theosophical Society in Slovenia” bulletin was prepared to provide the public with basic information about the club, regularly stemmed magazine “Teozofska Misel”, moreover, there have been issued booklet of J. Krishnamurti – At the Feet of the teacher and H. P. Blavatsky’s – The Voice of the Silence.
a
The Society was again visited by the President of the Theosophical Society, so there were also organized public lectures. In November,  a seminar for potential applicants started in Ljubljana in addition to regular work place, led by the Vice Society, Jožica Košir, and to acquainte participating with the main directions of the Theosophical tradition and philosophy. In two groups, began under the leadership of Chair of the circle place the work in Koper.
a
Due to the fact that in 1991, on the ground of the former Yugoslavia formed a new countries, the Republic of Slovenia and Croatia, which were recognized by the international community, the members of the association in Croatia started in 1992, with efforts to set up their own club, so that they no longer attended the General Assembly Society, which took place on 21. June and on which it was elected a slightly refurbished Executive Committee. However, the Society got 16 new members, who attended a preparatory course in Ljubljana and Koper, bringing the total number of members of the association, despite the exit of members from Croatia, remained unchanged. Fixture have now become annual visits of Mary Anderson and her public lectures and conduct summer school, which this year took place in September. Still further on regular basis Magazine Theosophical Thought was published, and also book “Two Books of Stanzas of Dzyan.”
a
Leading officials of the Society have launched efforts to group members in Ljubljana and Koper, which emerged from preparatory courses to separate circles, named “Harmony” and “Margarita Candida”, but these efforts on the other side again launched a struggle for dominance in the society, under the guise of discussions on the “right” Theosophy. At the end of the year, on 19 October 1992, The President of the Theosophical Society finally published Charter for the Theosophical Society in Slovenia as Regional association of the Theosophical Society.
a
Despite the fact, that leading members of TS in Slovenia belonged to Esoteric school, disagreements and tensions appeared again, of which source again came from Istria, where initiative estabilished, therefore”combination of circumstances in Koper and Ljubljana probably indicates an action, played in the past, that lacks an epilogue.” Efforts of vice president of society were estimated as apostasy, her group was dissolved, members of this group in large part left society, so number of members decreased to number of 58.
a
Again problems appeared because of library and book borrowing. Increasingly more active circle in Koper organized in septmber of 1994 annual school in Sonček in Hrvatini, where four speakers were hosted from abroad, and it was held under name: “Teozofija – notranja preobrazba človeka” – “Theosophy – inner transformation of human”. Society continued with rather rich publishing activity and it published books of H. P. Blavatsky – Key to theosophy and C. W. Leadbeater – Chakras and encouraged start of activity in Maribor.
a
With democratic changes in Slovenia and acceptance of new law about societies, new option has appeared, to adapt laws of TS in Slovenia to laws of TS. At the General Assembly in 1994, was named commission to prepare amendments to the rules, but they have never met.
a
Therefore, on private initiative of the President of the Society, Rules of the Theosophical Society were translated and comment about essential characteristics about these rules was prepared and proposal of new rules of TS Slovenia on their basis.
a
In addition, a translation of the Rules of the Theosophical Society, together with a translation I. K. Taimni’s work Principles of Theosophical Work and translation of the monograph E. Bratina Theosophy and the Theosophical Society, formed a brochure that would be sent to each member of the society, in order to make them familiar with the basic acts and principles of the association.
a
However, the Executive Committee of the Theosophical Society in Slovenia has not considered and supported this proposal.
It appears that the reason for this is before mentioned initiative, which materialized at a meeting of the Executive Committee of 24. 6. 1995, on the eve of the General Assemblies Association when The Executive Committee approved the new rules, which included a name change and symbol of Society of Adyar Theosophical Society in Slovenia, and The designation of the Esoteric School for the new president of the Society renamed by this initiative. The General Assembly of the Association also approved this changes without debate and has chosen the nominees.
a
Due to inadequate procedures and highly flawed rules, the association next year, 1996, again renamed to Theosophical
Society in Slovenia.
